Interview
at the APS
The APS is the gateway to studying in Germany for Chinese applicants. After a successful examination of an applicant's documents (this can include a plausibility interview or TestAS), it issues a certificate, which is required by German universities as an admission requirement. This certifies that the documents submitted by the Chinese applicants are genuine and that they have achieved sufficient academic performance in China to apply to a German university. It should be noted that the APS does not review coursework documents from Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau.
'Language Corner' helps our students get fit for upcoming interviews at the APS. We try our best to simulate a real interview, all the probable tasks and possible questions.
You should keep in mind that both languages English and German are officially allowed during the interview, and the language proficiency must be at least around B1-B2 levels. Otherwise it might happen that the candidates fail the interview due to lack of understanding or complete misunderstanding of interviewers, and complexity of tasks.
A standard APS interview is based upon the individual profile of a candidate including his/her educational background, degrees, major(s) and (or) minor(s) subjects, personal educational path/trajectory, possible working experience (including internships), theoretical knowledge and practical skills, etc.
You should expect tasks and questions concerning your scientifical interests and written research paper(s), academic achievements checking your subject and interdisciplinary knowledge, your ability to solve problems quickly and critically, to express your thoughts and ideas clearly.
Your language skills are not assessed directly at the APS, only your academic/professional competences. Detailed language assessment belongs to a variety of worldwide acknowledgeable language exams and test like TestDaF, Goethe-Zertifikat, telc, etc.
